The link below leads to a clip showing 24 hours of air traffic for the whole globe.
Each dot is a flight. You can see the typical transoceanic routes used, etc.
Look very closely and you can see theday/night boundary moving and how the intensity of the flights increases during daylight around the world.
Current statistics show more than 21,000 heavy transport airplanes flying world wide and just under 60,000 flights per day world wide.
